VALLEJO, Calif. – Cal Maritime will head to Arizona for the final games of the season when it squares off against Park Gilbert on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. PT (7:30 p.m. MT) and Benedict Mesa for Saturday's 4 p.m. PT (5 p.m. MT) matchup.
Please note that locations for both games will take place one hour ahead of the Pacific Time Zone.
Both games will take place off-site from respective schools: Arizona Athletics Grounds (click previous link for Google Map/directions) will host Thursday's conference clash with The PHHacility set to host Saturday's regular season finale.
Unfortunately for the Keelhaulers, all six qualifiers for the California Pacific Conference Men's Basketball Championship are determined; both games played this week will determine the team's final standing for the 2023-24 season.
However, CSUM would love nothing more than to send Angelo Nicandro and Justice Cole, the program's graduating seniors, out with victories in their final games in a Cal Maritime uniform.
With both opponents joining the GSAC Conference next year, Cal Maritime has an opportunity to sweep the all-time series against Park Gilbert with a road victory since it won all four previously played head-to-head games. Not only will a win give the Keelhaulers an all-time sweep, that result will clinch a season sweep for the second year in a row since they topped the Buccaneers, 84-77, in last month's game at PEAC Main Gym.
Thanks to last Saturday's game at Simpson, Park Gilbert ended a four-game losing streak and reached 10 wins for the first time in program history.
Before it host Cal Maritime, Benedictine Mesa will face Pacific Union on Thursday in the Redhawks final games of the season.
Unlike its head-to-head series versus Park Gilbert, this matchup against Benedictine Mesa has been an evenly played series with Cal Maritime leading the all-time series, 7-6, by splitting the six games played in Arizona and 4 of 7 in Vallejo.
The Redhawks earned their first road victory against the Keelhaulers last month, the team's first in nearly four years, thanks to a strong performance in the second half.
A Cal Maritime victory will secure a split of this year's series and prevent a season sweep from taking place, between these teams, for the first time in program history.
By winning the last head-to-head game of the 2017-18 season, and the first of the following campaign, CSUM won consecutive games for the only time between these teams; a true season sweep never took place since their first matchup, which took place in Arizona on January 14, 2016.
If the statistics offer a glimpse of what may take place in Phoenix on Saturday, expect a high-scoring affair since two of the Cal Pac's top overall shooters, and three-point specialists, will face one another.
Ranked No. 4 in the league with his .552 field goal percentage, DeAndre Minor sits one spot ahead of Jamaal Wright and his .545 shooting clip.
The Redhawks' Deven Franks and Cal Maritime's Lucky Hampton rank No. 2 and No. 3 from three with respective shooting percentages of .414 and .410.
