Keelhaulers bounce back with a blowout victory at SJSU
SAN JOSE, Calif. – Cal Maritime collected its first win of the season in impressive fashion by scoring the game's first 36 points to earn a blowout victory at San José State, in its first road game of the season, by a 48-21 score.
With Saturday's result, the Keelhaulers will return to Bodnar Field on October 30 for its inaugural league matchup of the season with a 1-1 overall record.
"Our defense improved and played well all game long," said assistant coach Edward Roberts.
"Combined with our aggressive play on offense, today was a step in the right direction for everyone. Now that we earned our first win of the season, the team is eager to work hard and improve its play on both sides of the ball leading up to our first league game next weekend," Roberts added.
By converting five out of seven conversions, combined with a try and a penalty kick, Jonah Wolfe led all Keelhaulers with 18 total points. In addition to Jerry McLarnon's two tries, Colby Glaze, Jacob Jenkins, Leilua Lualemaga and Gavin Murray completed Cal Maritime's scoring against the Spartans.
