VALLEJO, Calif. — The chase for a coveted spot at the Pacific Western Conference Championships, hosted by Cal Maritime on November 20 and 21, will begin on Saturday when the Keelhaulers host Humboldt State in their 1 p.m. league opener at Bodnar Field.

Cal Maritime will return to action after last week's resounding 48-21 victory at San José State — a game that saw the Keelhaulers score all 36 points earned by either team throughout the first half.

Including Saturday's contest, two of the three league matchups on Cal Maritime's schedule will take place on its home turf. Following next week's game at Cal State Monterey Bay, rugby will square off against Sonoma State on November 12 in Vallejo.

Keelhauler rugby fans hope last weekend's action in San Jose is the start of a successful run that continues through the league's tournament and carries Cal Maritime to Houston, site of the National Club Championship.

For now, cadet-athletes are squarely focused on a Humboldt State team known for its physicality and collective talent; as is the case with the Keelhaulers, the Lumberjacks' roster features talent from top to bottom and always provide a stern challenge for every opponent.
