VALLEJO, Calif. – With its inaugural pair of games for the 2021 season postponed, Cal Maritime was forced to wait another week before kicking-off its season, which will now take place on its home turf starting with Thursday's 7:30 p.m. season opener vs. Providence Christian. Since the Sea Beggars also compete in the Cal Pac, this matchup will double as the team's league opener.

The Keelhaulers' three-match homestand will continue Saturday morning when Marymount California visits Bodnar Field for an 11 a.m. game.

When the Mike Carvalho era commences this week, Cal Maritime's head coach will field a squad that includes 13 underclassmen — a group of cadet-athletes that includes 10 freshmen who will don a Keelhauler jersey for the first time in their respective careers.

Providence Christian has endured a tough start to its season by dropping its first four games, results that includes its last two games, at Soka University and at home against Marymount California, in its inaugural Cal Pac contests.

Thursday's meeting is not only the first of three straight home games for Cal Maritime, but the first of three consecutive road events for the Sea Beggars. After traveling to Redding for Saturday's match at Simpson, they will head to La Sierra before hosting Westcliff next weekend.

Providence Christian won the last head-to-head matchup, by a 9-2 result, in a game that also took place in Vallejo on October 12, 2019.

Marymount California will head to Northern California for its weekend road trip, which starts at Simpson on Thursday, on a three-game win streak. After defeating La Sierra and Providence Christian on the road for their first Cal Pac victories of the season, the Mariners ended their week by shutting out San Diego Christian College at home by a 1-0 result.

Leading Marymount California's offense is junior forward Bryan Villalobos, who earned Cal Pac Player of the Week honors on Tuesday after scoring six goals throughout last week's action. Of those strikes, two were game-winners.
