Cordoba scores first goal as a Keelhauler in Friday’s Cal Pac opener

MESA, Ariz. – Freshman Guillermo Cordoba scored his first goal as a Keelhauler, in the 74th minute, when Cal Maritime visited Bell Bank Park in Mesa, Arizona, for Friday's Cal Pac opener against Benedictine Mesa. Not only did that strike find the back of the net on his first-ever collegiate shot, that attempt cut the Redhawks' lead in half with just over 15 minutes of action remaining.

That was one of the Keelhaulers' three shots recorded after halftime; both of CSUM's corner kicks also took place during the second half.

During the final portion of the game, the Redhawks withstood Cal Maritime's furious comeback attempt to escape with a 2-1 win by scoring the first goals of the game in the in the eighth and 50th minutes. The Keelhaulers will return to Bell Bank Park for Sunday's 1:30 p.m. matchup versus Park Gilbert with a 0-2-1 overall and 0-1 Cal Pac record, Benedictine Mesa will continue its season at 1-2-1 and 1-0.

Caleb Vance posted two of his team's four shots, Jose Diaz and Cordoba each finished the night with one apiece. Every CSUM attempt forced a save by Ben U's keeper.

Cal Maritime's netminder, Nathan Witte, finished with nine saves.
