CSUM finishes final pre-national tournament tune-up, attention now shifts to postseason play in Florida
VALLEJO, Calif. – Down 13-7 in the back-half of Saturday's doubleheader against Ottawa (AZ) entering the fourth quarter, Cal Maritime scored five unanswered goals to pull within one, with 3:17 left to play.
Unfortunately for the Keelhaulers, who primarily played their reserves throughout the day, the visiting Spirit recorded five of the final six goals to defeat Cal Maritime and clinch a berth in the Sunday's NAIA West Invitational championship match.
By defeating OUAZ, 18-12 Sunday morning, Westcliff is this year's NAIA West Invitational champions.
Using this weekend's tournament as a tune-up for the upcoming national championships in Florida, Cal Maritime will face Army in its inaugural match to determine this year's national champion.
This three-day tournament hosted by Florida in Gainesville, Florida, features the top 16 teams in the nation. Friday's first sprint for Cal Maritime's match vs. Army is scheduled for 8:20 a.m. Pacific.
