Clutch results highlight strong second day for Keelhaulers at PCCSC North Designate
VALLEJO, Calif. – After finishing the first day of competition at Morrow Cove in seventh place, a pair of fourth-place results during Sunday's races helped Cal Maritime finish fourth overall among 17 teams that competed at the PCCSC North Designate — the first of two events taking place on campus throughout a three-week timespan.
Following next weekend's PCCSC Spring Championship, the Keelhauler Open will return to Morrow Cove/Cal Maritime Boat Basin on April 16 and 17.
During Saturday's schedule, the Keelhaulers' B team captured third place in two of four races to help Cal Maritime enter the back-half of this two-day regatta in seventh place. With four place finishes secured in two of four races that took place throughout the day, Cal Maritime jumped three spots on the leaderboard to finish a strong weekend of home action in fourth.
Overall scores were comprised of race results from both divisions throughout the six rounds of racing that took place during the weekend.
By winning two of four races, and finishing second and third in the other pair, Hawai'i entered the day in third but left the Waterfront as event champions. Stanford and USC finished second and third.
Clutch results from Cal Maritime helped it earn fourth with UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara and UCLA finishing fifth through seventh, respectively; this trio all finished within three points of the Keelhaulers.
An exciting month of April, which features five regattas in four weeks, continues for the Keelhaulers next weekend in Santa Barbara at the PCCSC Spring Championship. This two-day event will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday and conclude the following afternoon.
