VALLEJO, Calif. – Last weekend, Cal Maritime battled back during the final day of competition at the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference North Regatta to secure fourth place at Morrow Cove and enter this week's PCCSC Open Team Championship (April 8) and PCCSC Open Conference Championship (April 9-10), both dinghy regattas, with momentum as the Keelhaulers seek another championship.

Hosted by UC Santa Barbara and the Santa Barbara Yacht Club at Santa Barbara Harbor, each participating league institution will sail three boats in each race during the Open Team Championship; a round-robin format will determine qualifying teams, for subsequent rounds, based on the cumulative number of wins at the end of each round. Teams that do not qualify will secure an overall finish/position based on the total number of cumulative wins after their last round sailed.

The winner will secure a berth at the ICSA Team Race National Championship.

The preferred format for Friday's championship is a preliminary single round robin featuring all participating teams, following by a double round robin involving the top four teams. If time does not permit the preferred format, a round of competition involving the top four teams from a preliminary single round robin will take place.

If timing, weather, or race conditions prevent officials from using either of the previously mentioned formats, this championship will use a preliminary single round robin featuring all teams, with ties broken by using ISCA Procedural Rules. If the minimum number of races (as prescribed by the ICSA Procedural Rules) to declare a champion are not completed by the cutoff time, racing shall continue until sunset. If the minimum number of races were not met, the event shall be rescheduled, if possible.

If it is not possible to reschedule, or at the rescheduled event the minimum number of races is not met, no team will earn this year's conference championship. To determine which team will represent the PCCSC at Nationals, all participating teams shall be invited to submit a resume for review by an outside panel comprised of the Conference Commissioner and two others, with preference given to knowledgeable team racers.

During Saturday and Sunday's Open Conference Championship, 17 PCCSC schools will compete in a traditional two-division regatta, with overall placing determined by the each school's combined scores.

Including last weekend's home result, Cal Maritime will head to Santa Barbara with top-five overall results in four of the last five dinghy regattas. During that timespan, the Keelhaulers also celebrated three top-three performances capped by a championship in the Cal Team Race, which featured an undefeated weekend record.

Cal Maritime was the only team to finish that regatta in Berkeley with a perfect record; it also celebrated a pair of third place results in recent weeks at the Jeremy McIntyre Team Race and PCCSC South Designate.
