CASCADE LOCKS, Ore. – This weekend marked the final regatta for seniors Julia Mast and Becca Masliah, and their appearance was an unforgettable one since Cal Maritime simply dominated the Rainier Cup, which took place at the Port of Cascade Locks in Cascade Locks, Oregon, to win this regatta for the second year in a row.

The Keelhaulers successfully defended their regatta title by sitting atop the leaderboard for all but one race throughout the weekend. After finishing second in the Rainier Cup's opening race, CSUM jumped one position on the team leaderboard following the next race and held that spot for the rest of the regatta.

Of the 16 combined races that took place — eight in the A and another eight in the B Division — sailing finished either first or second in all but one occasion. Throughout a regatta that included five straight bullets, CSUM finished first eight times.

Washington finished second with a combined team score of 46, 22 points behind the defending champions. Even though Washington's A Division score was two points better than CSUM (11 vs. 13), the Keelhaulers crushed the Huskies in the B Division by finishing with 11 team points, against UW's 35.

In the Rainier Cup's JV regatta, CSUM and event host Western Washington each finished with 54 team points; Washington's B and A teams since they ended the event with 36 and 49 points, respectively. Based on a head-to-head tiebreaker, the Keelhaulers captured third place overall from a 16-race competition that saw them finish first in each of the last four races and five of the Rainier Cup's final six.

With this varsity result, Cal Maritime will head to Honolulu with momentum for next weekend's season finale, the PCCSC Mark Healy Open Fleet Race Championship.
