Cal Maritime finishes 19th out of 31 professional crews at Rolex Big Boat Series

Final Results

SAN FRANCISCO —
As was the case this past summer when it competed against the top professional crews in the world at the 2023 Transpacific Yacht Race, Cal Maritime was the only collegiate team within a field of pros when it traveled to St. Francis Yacht Club to compete in the world-renowned Rolex Big Boat Series.

With teams from across America traveling to San Francisco to compete in this weekend-long event, the Keelhaulers finished 19th out of 31 teams.

Of the seven races that took place throughout the weekend, the Keelhaulers recorded a top-15 finish three times — that total would have increased to four, but CSUM finished 16th on one occasion — highlighted by the crew's eight-place result during the regatta's fifth race.

In the weeks leading up to the event, with the generous support of the Academy, alumni and competitors, the an experienced team of sailors — comprising Cal Maritime's crew were Cyrus Khaleeli, Cooper Smith, Charlie Bedford, Max Roth, Django Knafo-Tomlinson, Clay Meyers and Ben Louttit —competed in a boat loaned by a program alumdonated sails, and an experienced team of sailors.

Cal Maritime will compete in its inaugural collegiate competition of the 2023-24 season September 23-24 when it heads to Seattle for the PCCSC Team/Singlehanded Championship
