VALLEJO, Calif. –
Following its outstanding start to the season, one that saw Nick Mueller dominate the PCCSC Singlehanded Championship and punch his ticket to the national championship in November, Cal Maritime's season will continue this weekend in San Diego at the Richard Sweet Match Race Championship, hosted by San Diego State at the San Diego Yacht Club.

Also making the trek to Southern California to participate in this regatta are Cal, Hawai'i, Stanford, UC Santa Barbara, USC and the University of Victoria.

Only eight skippers were invited to this event, their respective crews are comprised of three or four crew members, including one female student-athlete. Teams will compete using J/22-type boats and race in San Diego Bay off the Grape Street Pier.

The Race Committee will determine the number of matches sailed each day with each subsequent flight starting as soon as practicable after the previous flight.

Up for grabs is the winning team's name engraved on the PCCSC Richard Sweet Match Race Championship with the winning skipper awarded a berth in the 2025 ICSA National Match Race Championship, hosted by South Florida from November 15-17.

This is the first of San Diego-based competitions involving Cal Maritime in as many weekends; UC San Diego will host the UCSD Open on the 11th and 12th at Mission Bay Yacht Club.
