Keelhaulers drop season opener at Bill Holtz Warrior Classic

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Cal Maritime headed to Rocklin Friday night to face Lincoln University in its 2021-22 season opener at the Bill Holtz Warrior Classic, hosted by William Jessup. Throughout the first two quarters, fans witnessed a back-and-forth battle between the Keelhaulers and Oaklanders, one that saw Cal Maritime trail by only three points at halftime.

By outscoring its opponent by 11 in the third quarter, Lincoln extended its lead for good as it left Warrior Arena with a 67-50 victory over Cal Maritime.

The Keelhaulers will enter Saturday's 4 p.m. tournament finale vs. Oregon Tech at 0-1 with Lincoln continuing its season at 1-1. Live stats and a video stream of Saturday's game featuring Cal Maritime and the Owls are available by clicking respective links.

By outscoring the Oaklanders 21-18 in the second quarter, highlighted by a 5-0 run, Cal Maritime quickly pulled within a field goal entering the break.

A free throw from Kaylee Berry followed consecutive free throws from Kai Kraus, which trimmed an eight-point deficit to five. On its next possession, Berry nailed a jumper with eight ticks remaining on the clock to cap a 5-0 Cal Maritime scoring outburst within the last minute of the half.

Berry led her team with 13 points, on 5 of 7 shooting from the floor; she and Dylan Fulton each ended the night with a team-high six rebounds.
