SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Cal Maritime remained within striking distance of San Diego Christian throughout Friday morning's neutral-site game in San Marcos, California, but the Hawks pulled away for good in the third quarter to defeat the Keelhaulers, 83-58 at USK Sports Complex.
Cal Maritime will continue its brief road trip in San Diego with Saturday morning's 10 a.m. matchup against Saint Katherine and enter that game with a 0-4 record. The Hawks will continue their season at 2-3.
Even though the Keelhaulers and Firebirds both compete in the Cal Pac Conference, tomorrow's meeting is a designated non-conference affair.
Trailing only by eight at the break, the Keelhaulers were outscored by San Diego Christian 24-8 in the third period, which ultimately became the difference in this game since the Eagles outscored Cal Maritime by one point in the fourth quarter.
Alicia Porter led all Keelhaulers with 14 points with Mele Tuimaunei and Alina Daffon adding another 10 apiece.
