VALLEJO, Calif. – If you are a Cal Maritime women's basketball fan, Saturday will provide an exciting night of basketball since the team will host rival Pacific Union, at 6:30 p.m., in its final home game of the 2021-22 season.
This weekend will also provide supporters with an opportunity to help the program honor guard Alexandra Corral, the only member of its senior class, who will make her final appearance as a Keelhauler cadet-athlete.
Fans are encouraged to arrive to PEAC Main Gym by 6 p.m. to secure their seats for the program's pregame ceremony.
After defeating PUC, 71-58 on its home court when these teams met in Angwin on January 30, Cal Maritime will seek a sweep of this season's series against a Pioneers squad opening its season-ending five-game road swing in Vallejo.
The Keelhaulers will open a road-heavy block of activity following this weekend's rivalry showdown since its final three games of the season will take place at Simpson (Wednesday), La Sierra (February 19) and Antelope Valley (February 21).
The last head-to-head meeting included a historic performance by junior forward Alicia Porter who ended the game with 43 points and 26 rebounds, both career highs, that double as the Cal Pac's fourth-highest scoring and new single-game all-time records.
Those attention-grabbing stats also led to conference and NAIA National awards when respective organizations announced their Player of the Week selections the following week.
With that January result, Cal Maritime now holds a 21-8 all-time series advantage, which includes a 10-5 mark in the last 15 played inside Pacific Auditorium, also known as Covered Wagon.
Cal Maritime won 11 of the last 14 played against PUC on its home floor.
Since these teams split the season series from 2017-2020 (games were not played in 2021 due to COVID), the Keelhaulers face an opportunity to record a season sweep over the Pioneers for the first time since 2016.
