Fulton and Porter finish with 14 points apiece; Keelhaulers enjoy stellar second quarter at Saint Katherine

OCEANSIDE, Calif. – Dylan Fulton hit 5 of 9 shots and Alicia Porter also finished with five field goals as each led the Keelhaulers in scoring with 14 points apiece in Thursday's Cal Pal Conference game in Oceanside, California, at Mira Costa College.

Anika Carey hit two of her four baskets from three to end her night with 10 points and Kai Kraus enjoyed a well-rounded performance by posting a stat line that included eight points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Trailing by as many as 13 points in the second quarter, the Keelhaulers shot 48 percent from the floor, limited the Firebirds to five baskets out of 18 attempts (28 pct.) forced six USK turnovers and turned those extra possessions into 12 points, which helped CSUM pull within two before halftime.

Down 21-8 at the eight-minute mark of the period, Cal Maritime enjoyed a 15-4 scoring run over the next six minutes of action, capped by a three from Fulton, and entered the locker room shortly thereafter trailing by only three.

Even though Saint Katherine outscored the Keelhaulers in the following possession, they remained within striking distance the rest of the night but were unable to erase the Firebirds' lead in a game USK won, 63-52.

Cal Maritime will have a short amount of time to rest, recover and prepare for its next game, slated for Saturday at 2 p.m. at Westcliff.
