Cal Maritime drops weekend finale at Westcliff

IRVINE, Calif. – Kai Kraus led the Keelhaulers in scoring with 13 points and Alicia Porter posted another double-double by finishing Saturday's game at Jordan Lawley Basketball in Irvine, California, with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

"AP earned another efficient double-double, which really helps us with some stability, scoring-wise ,when sometimes the ball doesn't go through the basket for a couple possessions in a row," said Cal Maritime head coach Imhotet Amen-Ra.

"Kai also provided a great spark off the bench since she scored 13 points and only played 15 minutes. Her energy while on the bench with three fouls, and the way she played on the court was remarkable considering she needed to reman mindful of her foul situation."

Even through the Keelhaulers were able to generate solid looks all game long, it was just one of those games where the ball just simply refused to fall through the hoop as Westcliff defeated CSUM, 74-46.

Dylan Fulton also came up huge for Cal Maritime throughout the afternoon by finishing with nine rebounds and four steals — timely stats that created numerous scoring opportunities for her team.

"Dylan did an excellent job finding other ways to contribute, thanks to her effort in the paint and on the defensive end of the floor for us, even though she wasn't having the best shooting day."

Amen-Ra added, "Westcliff did a good job making some things more difficult for us than we would have liked. We say it all the time, but if we want to be the best, we have to go through the best, and Westcliff  is on a roll right now."

Awaiting women's basketball are three straight home games, starting with Thursday's 5:30 p.m. tilt versus La Sierra.
