VALLEJO, Calif. - Women's soccer fans witnessed a thriller at Bodnar Field on Thursday afternoon when Cal Maritime hosted Mills College in a non-conference matchup that opened the 2021 season for the Keelhaulers.
Nearly 400 fans saw Cal Maritime dominate possession throughout the entire afternoon and force the Cyclones to make remarkable saves on all five shots fired towards their goal throughout the first half. Even though Mills College scored the first goal of the day off a counterattack three minutes before halftime, the Keelhaulers kept their composure and continued to control the pace of play when action resumed.
Led by Amanda Carvalho and Jackie Garcia, who finished the game with four shots on goal apiece, the Keelhaulers continued to generate dangerous scoring opportunities throughout the final 45 minutes of action.
Unfortunately, the goal scored by Mills in the first half ended up being the only one recorded throughout the game as Cal Maritime dropped the first game of a season-opening three-match homestand by a 1-0 result.
Cal Maritime will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Marymount Christian at 1:30 p.m. on Bodnar Field.
