Cal Maritime's cross country teams crush challenging course at PUC

ANGWIN, Calif. – Cal Maritime cross country enjoyed its best day on the course this season when both teams traveled to Angwin to compete in the PUC Pioneer Invitational, which took place on Pacific Union's home course.

Covering a distance of 4k, the women swept the podium by recording the three fastest individual times, Julia Mast recorded the fastest overall time or 23:37.674, following by Safari Frisell (24:42.062) and Mele Tuimaunei (25:18.594).

On the men's side, Cal Maritime took first and second place thanks to Michael Lapinski and Trevor Hodges, who crossed the line in 25.16.997 and 25:58.588, respectively. Harry Bragg finished fourth overall with a time of 26:57.742.

"Since this was the second race of the season, we are still working out the kinks," said head coach Jeff Ward. "I felt this was a good day for us in progressing towards our overall goal."

The On Campus Course at Pacific Union provided great weather for all participants; a true cross country track that is hilly, with loose-packed trails that offered a true challenge to all harriers.
