VALLEJO, Calif. – Cal Maritime will head to Southern California for its longest road trip of the season when it faces Saint Katherine and Westcliff in a pair of non-conference matches against Cal Pac Conference teams. Since the Firebirds and Warriors are not part of the North Division, these are designated as non-conference contests.
After opening its current four-game road swing at Sierra Nevada last Friday, the Keelhaulers will end this road-heavy portion of their schedule next Friday (Oct. 22) at UC Merced.
Even though Cal Maritime dropped its last three games, after opening the season at Bodnar Field with a 1-1 2OT draw vs. Providence Christian, it has created multiple dangerous scoring opportunities throughout the first portion of its season, as evident by its 35 shots, 16 shots on goal and 8.8 shots per game average.
The Keelhaulers will look to continue its aggressive play against a Saint Katherine squad that dropped all 10 games played in 2021, including all four on its home turf.
Do not take their overall record for granted; the Firebirds have played competitively in recent weeks with three of its last four games decided by a single goal.
The back-half of Cal Maritime's trip will take place against a team that has enjoyed different results to its season, compared to Saint Katherine, since Westcliff will enter this week's slate undefeated in its last six played. Included within that block of results are five victories and a draw; the first of those five wins was earned at Soka, the Warriors collected the remaining results on their home turf.
Once men's soccer returns from this weekend's swing through Southern California, its final six games of the regular season will feature North Division foes with three matchups held at Bodnar Field.
