Busy block of soccer ends with Monday’s matchup at Menlo

ATHERTON, Calif. – Even though they scored twice before halftime in Monday's non-conference matchup at Wunderlich Field, Cal Maritime and the Oaks engaged in a spirited battle throughout the afternoon until additional late goals helped Menlo (4-2-2) pull away and record a 5-0 result over the Keelhaulers.

Fuego Onofeghara-Omoko and Guillermo Cordoba each recorded a shot; Nikhil Hunter's attempt in the 32nd minute nearly lit up the scoreboard for CSUM but was turned away by Menlo goalkeeper Jo Krumsvik.

Monday's game took place just over 24 hours after Cal Maritime visited PUC Field, in Angwin, for Sunday afternoon's Cal Pac Conference clash between rival schools.

For the first time as a Keelhauler, Nic Kashiwai found the back of the net to pull his team within striking distance in the 72nd minute, until Pacific Union (2-5-1, 2-2 Cal Pac) responded with its fourth, and final goal of the day in the 76th minute to defeat Cal Maritime, 4-1.

A season-long five-game road swing will conclude on Friday when CSUM (0-6-1, 0-3 Cal Pac) returns to league play against Soka. Kickoff at Lions Den Soccer Stadium, in Aliso Viejo, is set for 5:30 p.m.
