PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Jose Diaz recorded a brace in Friday's Cal Pac Conference game at Varsity Field in Prescott, Arizona — the first time a Keelhauler accomplished this feat since Lowell Smith found the back of the net twice in CSUM's October 12 home game, versus Providence Christian, during the 2019 season.
Those two goals also doubled as a season-high total for an Embry-Riddle opponent this season; the first, recorded during the 37th minute, evened the score at one. The other was the final one earned by either team in a game the host Eagles won by a 4-2 result.
Diaz was the definition of efficient during men's soccer's weekend road opener since he scored on both shots taken throughout the night.
Luka Bilaver and Noah Anderson also took a team-high two shots with both attempts, for each individual, forcing a save from ERAU's goalkeeper.
Embry-Riddle lit up the scoreboard first in Friday's contest, pulling ahead in the 20th minute before Diaz pulled the Keelhaulers even.
That tied score lasted just over three minutes because the Eagles pulled away for good just a handful of minutes before halftime.
Another Eagles goal, recorded in the 52nd minute, extended their cushion until Diaz cut his team's deficit in half shortly before action concluded.
Cal Maritime will head to Westcliff for Sunday's 4 p.m. conference clash at OC Great Park in Irvine, California, with a 0-5 overall and 0-3 Cal Pac record. Embry-Riddle will continue its season at 6-3 and 4-1, respectively, after extending its current winning stream to four games.
