Keelhaulers fall to Buccaneers in Sunday's shootout

VALLEJO, Calif. – Cal Maritime finished up their California Pacific Conference weekend homestand as they hosted Park University (AZ) at Bodnar Field. The Buccaneers scored three times in the second half en route to a 5-2 victory over the homestanding Keelhaulers.

In the first half, the Keelhaulers would open the scoring up in the fourth minute as Jose Diaz scored his second of the season to give the Keelhaulers a 1-0 advantage. Approximately 10 minutes of clock time later, Nico de Simas would score his first of the season after a pass from Connor Wadhams to give the Keelhaulers a 2-0 lead. The Buccaneers would get on the scoreboard in the 21st minute after an Ashton Owen tally trimmed the Keelhaulers' lead to 2-1. In the 44th minute, Gilbert Ilan Rodriguez-Roda would tie the match for the Buccaneers at 2-2. 

In the second half, Konstantin Papanikolaou, for the Buccaneers, would score the eventual match winner in the 49th minute. For the next 37 minutes, the two teams would play an evenly played match with both teams getting multiple chances to score. The Keelhaulers' final chance to score came in the 84th minute but Jose Diaz's shot went wide left. In the 86th minute, Ilan Rodriguez-Roda would score to give the Buccaneers a 4-2 advantage and in the 89th minute, Konstantinos Hinteregger scored to give the Buccaneers their final tally of the match. 

Diaz and Rodriguez-Roda would each have a match high four shots. Zac Stephenson got the win for the Buccaneers and Nathan Witte got the loss for the Keelhaulers. Park (AZ) outshot Cal Maritime 17-12 and had an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Keelhaulers will hit the road for their next match as they take on UC Santa Cruz in Santa Cruz in non-conference play. Kickoff is set for 4 pm.
