Cal Maritime Sailing set for PCCSC Match Race Championship
VALLEJO, Calif. - The Cal Maritime sailing team will face some of the West Coast's stiffest competition when it sets sight on Oct. 2-3's Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference's (PCCSC) Match Racing Conference Championship for the Richard B. Sweet Memorial Trophy in the Port of Redwood City. Racing may also take place in San Francisco Bay.
Organized by the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA), Stanford University and the Peninsula Youth Sailing Foundation (PYSF), the format will be for each team to sail a round robin against everyone else, followed by knock-out stages which ultimately end in the final to decide first and second place. The objective in this one-one-one duel is to use strategy and tactics to be the first to cross the finish line.
The Keelhaulers are coming off a third-place result in their season-opening competition at the Shields Trophy Regatta in Chesapeake Bay and will take a four-person crew to the PCCSC Match Race Championship. Skipper Brock Paquin will be joined by trimmer Kyle Collins, with Hailey Thompson and Justin Zmina working the pit and bow, respectively.
Cal Maritime last competed in this regatta in 2019 and took fifth place.
Live results will be available through the PCCSC throughout the competition. To follow the action, click here.
