VALLEJO, Calif. – A season-opening three-match homestand will conclude for Cal Maritime Thursday night when it hosts Pacific Union in a 7:30 p.m. Cal Pac Conference contest at Bodnar Field. Once that game ends, women's soccer will experience a quick turnaround since it will hit the road and head to Tahoe Vista for its next league event, slated for 11 a.m. the following day.

These teams were originally scheduled to meet on September 23 in a game that doubled as the Keelhaulers' 2021 season opener and inaugural league match of the year. Since this game was postponed, Cal Maritime was forced to wait until the following week to enjoy competition for the first time since 2019 after COVID forced the cancellation of the 2020 campaign.

As is currently the case with Cal Maritime, Pacific Union just enjoyed three consecutive games on its home turf and finished that portion of its schedule with a 1-1-1 mark. What started with a scoreless draw against Simpson continued with a 2-0 loss vs. La Sierra, but ended with a 2-1 win over Soka in overtime.

Prior to that homestand, the Pioneers opened the season with two wins in their first five games — all played on the road.

After opening its season with consecutive road losses, Sierra Nevada entered a home-heavy portion of its slate, which features five games at North Tahoe Regional Park. The first two games included a 4-1 loss vs. UC Merced and 1-0 loss against Soka; in its most recent contest, the Eagles and Antelope Valley battled to a 1-1 draw.

Once Sierra Nevada's homestand ends, seven of the team's final eight games will take place on the road. Sunday's game vs. Simpson is the penultimate home match of the year for an Eagles squad that will compete in its final home event of 2021 on October 22 against Pacific Union.
