VALLEJO, Calif. — An important three-game homestand awaits men's basketball since all three matchups will play a significant role in the team's postseason drive.
The final home games of the year also include the program's Senior Day ceremony, taking place before tip-off of the Keelhaulers' 4 p.m. matchup versus Embry-Riddle (AZ). Basketball fans are encouraged to find their seats inside PEAC Main Gym by 3:45 p.m. to help the team honor its two graduating cadet-athletes, Angelo Nicandro and Justice Cole.
An important weekend will commence Thursday night against La Sierra, a team that currently holds the sixth, and final spot for the Cal Pac Men's Basketball Championship if the season ended at the time of this release.
A victory against the Golden Eagles will help the Keelhaulers climb the league's standings, with five games remaining, entering Saturday's Senior Day game versus Embry-Riddle, a team that holds the same conference record as Cal Maritime.
If CSUM earns its desired result in Tuesday's home finale, a game against local Cal Pac rival Pacific Union, the team will remain in postseason contention entering the final weeks of the season while sweeping this year's series against the Pioneers in the process.
However, the three games on the Keelhaulers' slate throughout that timespan will all take place on the road: at Antelope Valley (Feb. 17), at Park Gilbert (Feb. 22) and Benedictine Mesa (Feb. 24).
Before Cal Maritime spends any time or attention on that season-ending road swing, it must take care of business on its home floor this weekend, and on Tuesday, to maintain (and strengthen) its chance to continue the season at UC Merced — site of this year's conference postseason tournament.
